Passage 4

In plain words

Without these five elements there is no world at all. Sound, touch, form, taste, smell and the rest. We think ākāśa is somewhere or other. For everything, reaction, resound reflection. See good, do good, experience good. That is the true principle. If you want to obtain good, a good result comes only when you do good. In daily life, in every small matter, we see that reaction, resound, reflection. A cameraman brings a flash and clicks. However much light comes in that flash, that much darkness too comes at once. That is reflection. If we go near a hill and shout ‘O!’, from the hill too ‘O!’ comes back as a resound. In the same way, reaction. I struck this table hard. With ego you say of yourself, ‘I struck the table hard.’ The table too struck you this hard. You got hurt. So it is not only you who struck the table; the table too struck you. Resound and reflection are there wherever you look. So do a good act. Make a good sound. Think good thoughts. That itself gives you a good feeling. Further, all of Prakṛti is like a mirror. Whatever you do, that reflection shows in that mirror. In whatever way you revile that reflection, in that very way the result comes to you.

So we must be good. Be good. Do good and see good. This is the way to God. Recognise this truth and act by it. That is sound. Where is sound? That itself is what they call ākāśa. Where is this ākāśa? They look up. This sound itself is ākāśa. I am speaking. This is ākāśa. Ākāśa is everywhere. So how is it possible to say it is not there. We are breathing in air. There is air here. But we do not see it. There is air all around us. The eye does not see it. The hand cannot catch it. You cannot say it is not there. It is there. But it is not seen. Just because it is not seen, you cannot say it is not there. The sun is shining brightly. One who has no eyes does not see the sun. He says there is no sun. There is no sun for him, but is there no sun for everyone? In the same way Divinity is there wherever you look. Those who have no faith do not see it. But just because it is not seen, you cannot say it is not there. It is there. In the same way humanness too is joined with the Divinity that pervades everywhere. It is not possible for one single person to live in the world like a drop of oil on water.

There is society. It is not possible to leave society and go far away. Where did this society come from? Sam, āj: samāj. Sam means manyness. Āj means feeling. The oneness joined with the feeling of manyness is society.
