In plain words

While the Vaiṣṇavas keep saying Viṣṇu alone is great, while the Śaivas say Śambhu is great, while the Gāṇapatyas say Gaṇapati is great, while the learned say Śāradā is great, while those Muslims say Allah is the mighty one, while the Christians say, ‘For us it is Jesus,’ while My devotees say that I am great, while some say all are one: the Satya that all people accept is that God: behold it, all of you!

Satya is God. Truth is God. Taking this Satya as one, people of all religions, of all countries, of all regions must take refuge in the one divinity and recognise that this is the supreme Satya.

Today people search for God in matam, in religion. But He is not found in matam. He is found in mati, in the mind. God is contained in the mind itself. But He is not in religion. Only when we search the mind and master it do we understand this divinity. So the people of today give up searching the mind and search only in the outer world. We imagine that we are offering everything to God. But where is God? Brahmārpaṇaṃ brahmahaviḥ. ‘We are making the offering to Brahman,’ they said. He offers without knowing where Brahman is. It comes to him from the voice within. Ahaṃ vaiśvānaro… I dwell in your very heart. I dwell in your very belly. All that you offer, I Myself digest. All the essence that I digest in this way, I give back to your own body. Forgetting the God who is always with them, beside them and at home with them, men search for God only in the outer world. Never will the inner feelings become pure through outward vision. So if we are to recognise the principle of God, a change of the mind is absolutely necessary for us. We must develop our conduct so that it is right. Everything lies in our conduct itself. We must enter the divine path with right feeling and a sacred heart. For the sake of achieving these, all these sādhanas came to be developed. The prayers we make, the japa, the dhyāna: all of these purify our heart. If you ask how all those who won great renown in this world, the great souls, the men of intellect, the men of science, came by this greatness, it was through one thing only: their conduct.
