In plain words
While the Vaiṣṇavas say Viṣṇu alone is great, while the Śaivas say Śambhu is great, while the Gāṇapatyas declare Gaṇapati great, while the learned say Śāradā is great, while those Muslims say Allah is the mighty one, while all the Śāktas say Śakti, while My devotees say that I am great, while some say all are one, with the assent of every faith, the true Brahman is one alone: so you must declare. What else beyond this shall I make known? O members of this gathering, counted among the good and virtuous! To keep sweetness in the words and bitterness in the mind is not good; it is a stain on you; only a stainless life holds good on this earth; listen, O heroic son of Bhārata!
Embodiments of Prema! The whole of Bhārata is celebrating the Devī Navarātri. But no one tries to recognise what is special about the Navarātri. The heart of every one is the sacred plane of the Ātma itself! A human being without the Ātma, a living being without the Ātma, is to be seen nowhere. God is in every living being as the embodiment of the Ātma. God has no particular form and name. But human beings, each according to their own feelings, imagine many forms and names for God and offer Him worship. The Gāṇapatyas say Gaṇapati alone is great. The Śaivas say Śiva alone is great. The forms and names may differ, but God is one! But He appears to each in the forms that suit each one's feelings. So whatever form anyone loves, for them that form is the great one! But to say one form is greater than another is ignorance. Above all, worship of the Devī and prayer to God must be shown not by words but by deeds. Words you can speak, any number of them. But worship in the form of action alone is true worship.
In this Devī Navarātri they worship divinity under many names. Who decided these? Each one decided them for himself; for God there is no difference of this and that. No one can decide that divinity is like this or like that. The principle of Prema in the heart of all is itself divinity. God has no particular form. Prema alone is the form of God. Satya alone is the form of God. Satya fills every place.
From within Satya He brought forth all; in Satya the whole creation subsides; where can you find a place without the glory of Satya? This is pure sattva itself; see it, sirs!
Satya cannot be divided up, saying this is American Satya, this is Japanese Satya, this is Russian Satya, this is Indian Satya. The embodiment of Satya in all is one. To meditate on that embodiment of Satya is the supreme purpose of keeping festivals. You must honour every one. In all there is the divine principle of the Ātma. To honour every living being is itself true worship of God.
