In plain words
We are forgetting where we came from. We are forgetting what we came for. They forget what they are doing. Only eating and going, loading unloading: is this our life? This was called the wisdom of cattle, … not noble wisdom. Do cattle not eat? Do cattle not sleep? Have cattle no mates and young? Have they no families? You beget one son in two years. A dog gives birth to ten pups in less than three months. Is this the marvel you work after all your study? Is this the distinction that lies in humanness? You boast about yourself. I have a family. I have so much expense, so much expense. Why, does a belly a span long need so much expense?
To fill a belly a span long, suffering troubles, learning crores of skills with all one's zeal, and never gaining complete happiness, why should this human race waste away in sorrows? Does the Supreme Lord beyond all not show the way to the devotees who meditate on Him, O man!
Just to fill this belly a span long, so many stories, so many doings, so many kinds of play-acting? Every student must recognise this truth. This is not what we came for. We came for Swami. What are you doing? What are you following in Swami's command? Which of Swami's aims have you put into practice? Granted, we may think that those who came from outside came without this saṃskāra. But these Ph D Boys, who stayed in our college itself, grew up in our college itself, studied in our college itself, went about with Swami, stayed with Swami and had everything: what disease has come over them! If even these are falling into a downfall, what way is left? Spoiling the children. You think it is as if you were spoiling someone else's children. No. No. It is the truth, the truth. You are ruining your own children. If your children are to do well, if your families are to do well, we must look after well the children who come from outside. We must set them on the right path. Children are very innocent. They lived with great love. So all your sinful thinking goes on spreading over your children. So we must shape the whole of our citta and the heart with sweet feelings, so that they …. Is there even one person who shows an example? Then, as soon as his studies and his own affairs are finished, his parents get heart trouble. He must go off there. What is the reason? To hold weddings and festivities.
