In plain words
The fear of sin is gone, and wrongdoing has become the custom on earth; Bhakti for the Lord of Śrī is gone, and deeds of evil past all telling have come upon the world. Of that refuge of the world of ascetics, the Lord of Śrī, only the thought of the Name brings happiness, O man!
"I have read books, I have looked fully into all the śāstras, I have learned learning beyond compare": why this pride? Without your two hands folded in worship of the Paramātma with Bhakti, all this present learning is worthless on earth, is it not, O man!
To fill a belly a span wide, meeting troubles, a crore of learnings learned with resolve to the full, and still not finding full happiness, this human race, why should it waste away in sorrows? To the devotees who meditate on the Supreme beyond the highest, will He not show the way, O man!
Students!
To attain divinity, man does good deeds of many kinds and strives in every way to make his time, his body and his karma too fruitful. But what is the outcome of these sādhanas, what is the goal of these sādhanas? What are sādhanas? Only because he cannot recognise their meaning does man, however many kinds of sādhana he performs, fail to attain the purity he hoped for. Only when we first recognise what sādhana is can we, to some extent, attain what is to be attained. But in the world, people perform these sādhanas along the nine paths and, simply unable to recognise their inner meaning, waste their time, their body and their duty too. What is sādhana? Japa, dhyāna, bhajan, yoga and such good deeds: are these called sādhana? No. No. To turn bad into good is itself true sādhana.
