Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

We must use it rightly in the way we make use of it. This world is made of the changes of the pairs of opposites. Both cold and heat are there. Whatever qualities must come at whatever time, that is when they come to the fore. Merely because of that, we must not think it contrary. In our Rāyalasīma it is very hot in the month of March. In Ooty and Kodaikanal it is very cold. These two, cold and heat, are both alike. But the places are different. In the same way, our feelings can turn good or bad. A man had a woollen shirt stitched. The same man had a Thin Cotton Shirt stitched. Saying “Both are my shirts,” will he wear the woollen coat in this sun? That would be foolish, would it not? Though it is his own dress, he must wear the woollen coat in the cold season. In a little heat he must wear the Thin Cotton Shirt. Changes come in the way of using them. In this year called Prajāpati we must use our feelings well. Whatever the troubles, whatever the hardships, whatever the sorrows, everything can be achieved by “the feeling of God”. Many cannot believe this, but there is no greater happiness than to live believing it. But not everyone can recognise this truth. Well then, if one recognises it even a little, that is enough.

The changes of the four yugas in a single day

Thinking that Ugādi has to do with the Kṛta, Tretā and Dvāpara yugas, that some thousands of years ago the Kṛta yuga passed and some thousands of years after that the Tretā yuga passed, we pass our time under the yugas, under Time.

Embodiments of Prema! The Kṛta, Tretā, Dvāpara and Kali yugas did not come some thousands of years ago. All these yugas keep moving just as the days of the week come round in a “calendar”. As soon as this Kali yuga goes, the Kṛta yuga will come again. This has nothing to do with thousands of years. If we enquire well into life, every day, within twenty-four hours, the four yugas change. (1) From four in the early morning until twelve noon is the Kṛta yuga. At that time man has the full strength and capacity to walk in Dharma on all four feet; (2) from twelve noon until six in the evening is the Tretā yuga. Here Dharma loses one foot. That is, the strength in the human body declines somewhat. There only 3 feet move about; (3) from six in the evening until twelve at night is the Dvāpara yuga.
