In plain words

When We Take God's Command on Our Heads and Walk by It, We Gain Happiness in Plenty

When they take God's command on their heads and act by it, happiness and good fortune come to them in plenty. Śaṅkara went on giving the meaning of this to the world.

Do not, do not thirst for wealth, O man; with good sense, give up your desires; is not wealth only the fruit of karma? in what you have, find contentment; say ‘Hari Govindā, Hari Govindā, Hari Govindā’, you dullard!

O man! Do not fall prey to greed. Keep your desires. But until you attain God, you need Prema. That Prema alone will give you everything. Whatever is needed, when and where it is needed, it will grant of itself.

Do not ask, O mind; the more you ask, the lower it sinks; unasked, the work is quickly done. (Do not ask …) Did He not cherish Śabarī, who did not ask? And Jaṭāyu, dying, who asked nothing for himself: did He not go to him at the last and give him a good end? (Do not ask …)

King Daśaratha prayed earnestly to Rāma, ‘My son! At my last moment, pour water into my mouth with your own hand.’ But that good fortune did not fall to him in the least. To Jaṭāyu, who did not ask, He gave Mokṣa. Though Jaṭāyu did not ask, with His own hand He poured water into its mouth and made its birth fulfilled. ‘Did He not cherish Śabarī, who did not ask! Śabarī asked nothing of Rāma. But she went on thinking of Rāma without a break. ‘Rāma, they say, has entered the forest! Who knows by which path He will come?’ So she thought, and she went on sweeping that whole path and making it clean. She sat down under a jujube tree.
