Passage 6

In plain words

That is the command of God. To put it into practice we are making so many kinds of effort. For this no effort is needed. It is enough to love with all your heart. It comes forth of itself. A small example. She has put her little child down below. The mother is working upstairs. The child cried. The mother up above leaves her work entirely and comes down. The mother comes, picks up the child and stops its crying. In this Prakṛti man is falling prey to many troubles and misfortunes. He cries out loud for God. Then, wherever He may be, He comes down at once. How? To pray with all your heart: that is crying. To love with all your heart: that is crying. Otherwise, when the mother has to come down from above, no mother asks in the least, "For what reason is my child crying, in what state is it crying?" It is enough that it cries; she comes running. Today all human beings are crying.

They cried when they were born, they cried when they died; in between, for this and that, they cry for some reason or other. When Dharma declined, did they cry to raise it up? What did they cry for? They cried for the sake of crying.

They are not crying for God. Rāmakṛṣṇa Paramahaṃsa too said this very thing. "Swami, will we too have the vision of God as you have had it?" they asked. Surely, surely it will happen. Just as you and I are talking, you too can surely talk with God in the same way. But how? How? You are crying for your wife. You are crying for your children. You are toiling for a job. You are crying for positions. Are you crying for God? Only that same crying: cry it for God. God will surely appear before you.

God is not somewhere else. He is in oneself. He is unable to see the self hidden within him. Many people wear glasses on their noses. When they wash their faces they take them off and put them on again. Where can you search and find the glasses that are on your own nose? That is how it is today. Wearing glasses on their noses, they search, "Where are the glasses?" Those who search "Where is God?" are like fools searching "Where am I?" Where will they find God?

One is oneself God.
