Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

“My father told me to sit here. So I am following that,” he said. He stayed just so. It burned. He is Casabianca. That boy's name has lived on, true to its meaning. Is it not when every man puts it into practice, a little or a lot, that the value of humanness grows to some extent? Even though they know this is good, they do not put it into practice at all. They tell others that this is very good. But when they say it is good, why should they not practise it? Telling is nothing but artificial words. When it is not in the heart, why does it come into words? To make the words say what is not in the heart is Asatya. It is against humanness.

So we must do what we say. We must say what we do. We must do what we think. Because that state of things is lacking, however much spiritual organisations may be growing among the people of today, the unrest does not go at all. Where does Śānti come to us from? Śānti is within oneself, not outside. When you walk on the proper path, that Śānti shows itself to you. Only when you follow the path of Satya does Śānti come to you. If there is faith in God within you, that Śānti is reflected in you. But they pretend to have faith. What is the reason for the unrest? The very lack of faith. Everyone repeats like a parrot that human values are Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Prema. Are they putting even one into practice? Are they putting even a single one into practice? What do such people gain, then, by spreading and teaching? By this they only become people who have brought Sai a bad name. If you put even one into practice, it is a joy to Sai. This is not difficult. Speaking Satya is easy. How easy it is to say what is, just as it is! It is easy to say, ‘There is a handkerchief in My hand.’ If, showing this handkerchief, one says there is a garland of flowers in My hand, how great an Asatya that becomes! How easy it is to speak Satya! It is speaking Asatya that is hard. Man today is forgetting so easy a path. He loves and follows only what is difficult.

Even with so much divinity in the humanness of today, even with so much vastness in it, to live on so narrow a path is a great wonder. The heart does not mean this physical heart made of the five elements. The heart is everywhere. When our body is multiplied by infinity, he becomes the Virāṭ-svarūpa.
