The essential ones are just two; the rest are only limbs within them. We must abide in kindness. Kindness itself is another word for Prema. Prema is called kindness. When Prema is in us, no hatred comes. In truth, the things that torment man are just three. Desire, anger and greed. Desire burns to ashes the path of karma we follow. Greed destroys our Bhakti. Anger destroys utterly. Because desire, anger and greed are in man, they are throwing karma, upāsana and Jñāna into a straw fire. This is the root cause of good feelings not coming to man. For since desire, anger and greed, all three, are present, we are unable to do good karmas. We are unable to take part in the worship of God. We are unable to safeguard Jñāna. Why should we let such things in? Why should we nourish the things that betray us? First of all man must drive these three away. Every man should have some desires. They must not go beyond limits. To drive away evil qualities, we must think of God more. In this vast world we must be people of broad heart. We must have a heart as big as the ocean. For the universe, the ocean itself is the heart. What is in everyone is the Mānasa-sarovara. That too must be immensely vast. One who has no broad heart is no man at all. We must not give narrow feelings any room at all. Faults may arise at some time. We must not take account of this. But Prema we must not let go of. When we keep Prema foremost in life, we can achieve anything. Man must become broad-hearted. The resolve that arises in man must also be a great and ideal resolve. We must not develop petty resolves at all. We must take up infinite ideals. Such ideals: even when that person is gone, the ideal remains. It is a good ideal that they called chiranjīvī. It never perishes. Even when the body perishes, the quality does not perish. We must try to develop such sacred qualities.
Embodiments of Prema! Prema is in all of you. You are keeping that Prema within limits. No, no. You must make it vast. The vaster you make that Prema and the purer you keep it, the more ideal your life will be.
