In plain words
Satya is mother, Jñāna father, Dharma brother, compassion friend; Śānti wife, forbearance son: these six are the kin of men.
Embodiments of Prema!
In this world it is natural to have physical parents, physical brothers and sisters, a physical wife and children. But every man must develop a relationship that is spiritual, eternally true, sacred, everlasting, a relationship of nivṛtti. Who, truly, is our mother? Is she who reared this body and helped it grow the mother? That mother may pass out of sight after a time. The mother who is there in all three times is Satya. Jñāna means ‘Advaitadarśanaṃ jñānaṃ’. ‘Not two, but one alone’: just this is Jñāna. That is our father. Dharmā bhrātā. Dharma itself is our brother. Compassion itself is our sister. Śāntaṃ patni. Kṣamā putra. These six kinds of relationship alone are the right ones for every man.
The Prema of the Paramātma, to the people on the earth, to make it flow: that is the highest Bhakti. That every man lives and goes on living is not for his own ends; service to society is what he lives only to do: with this noble feeling, if he goes about his life, good will come. Forgetting even his own self, to the service of man to give himself in dedication: that is the contentment of the Ātma. Keeping a spotless Prema in his heart, if he does no good to all living beings, what fruit is there in being born a man upon the earth? What more than this can I make known to you, O members of this gathering, counted among the good and the virtuous!
