In plain words
Where there is Dharma, there is victory. Where Kṛṣṇa and Dharma are both together, there alone is victory. So the last śloka of the Bhagavad Gītā:
Yatra yogīśvaraḥ kṛṣṇaḥ yatra pārtho dhanurdharaḥ
Where Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna are, there firm faith and Prema win victory in everything. First of all, before everything, you must accomplish your own dharma. There are 700 ślokas in the Bhagavad Gītā. What is the very first śloka?
Dharmakṣetre kurukṣetre …
In the very first śloka, ‘dharma’ is the very first word. In the very last śloka, the very last word is ‘mama’. ‘Mama’ and ‘dharma’: the joining of these two is the Bhagavad Gītā. Mama dharma. Practise your own dharma: that is the essence of the Bhagavad Gītā. The oneness of this first word and last word is the very form of the Bhagavad Gītā. You need not learn the seven hundred ślokas by heart. Keep following these two: as a householder, follow the dharma of the householder. As a brahmacārī, follow brahmacarya. As a vānaprastha, follow vānaprastha. If each one goes on following his own dharma, there is nothing greater than that. The dharma of the heart is the same for all. You must fill your heart with Prema and see that it is never empty. When you fill your heart with Prema you can achieve anything; so:
Start the day with love Fill the day with love Spend the day with love End the day with love This is the way to God.
In this way we must go on living our life. To your institute I am giving a silver cup each. I am giving each campus a silver cup. Take it as a cup of the heart, believe it to be the prize itself, and be happy. You must not think it has been given to the institute. You must not think it has been given to an organisation. Each one of you must think, ‘It has been given to me,’ and take it as your own. Every one of you has a right to it. So you must go on developing fundamental love.
