Passage 12

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

We must reduce bad desires little by little. If you reduce desires, positive thoughts will come. Because we increase attachment to the body, these negative thoughts keep growing in us. He does not know it at the time, but later on he understands its nature. What use is grieving then? One must take care beforehand. Only when one takes care in this way can one make life joyful. Every human being too must become full of Ānanda. This Ānanda is not a worldly joy. We go on enjoying ourselves. We go on passing the time. A momentary joy gives no Śānti at all. Lasting Ānanda alone brings us Śānti.

Unstable is life in the world, unstable are youth and wealth; unstable are wife, sons and the rest; Satya and fame, the two, are stable.

That Satya alone is real, is lasting. That Satya alone is Brahman. That is the true Saccidānanda. That Saccidānanda is not something apart from you, far away. It is not something lying somewhere for you to search out and bring home. You yourself are Saccidānanda; where else will you search for Saccidānanda? Is there a man who searches outside for himself? No. To know oneself is Saccidānanda. With such sacred feelings one must go on making life worthwhile.

God's Prema is selfless Prema

Embodiments of Prema! Every human being is full of Prema. The human being who is full of Prema must cultivate Prema alone. The more we cultivate this Prema, the more Ānanda too grows. The more Ānanda you experience, the more ease you gain. That is Śānti. There is no need to enter into needless negative desires and fall prey to many illnesses, sorrows and griefs. Whoever you are, however you inquire, you must keep one thing well in mind. In me, though 72 years have passed up to this day, negative thoughts have never come.
