In plain words
Today's education increases only cleverness; it will not increase virtue even a little. If you have a crore of learnings and no virtue, what is the fruit? What is their worth?
Embodiments of Prema! From time without beginning the people of Bhārata have been calling this vast world of the moving and the unmoving prapañca. Prapañca means the very radiance of the five elements. From time without beginning the people of Bhārata have regarded these five elements as forms of God and worshipped them. They have been calling the earth Bhūdevī, water Gaṅgādevī, fire Agnideva, the air Vāyudeva and space Śabdabrahman. The students of today merely observe the visible world and nothing more; they make no effort to recognise the sacredness of these five elements, which have been worshipped as forms of God from time without beginning, and to act on it. Teachers too do not teach what is special about them. That is exactly why the five elements have become polluted today. As a result, human beings are losing security in their lives. What the students of today chiefly need to do is not to add to their acquaintance with books; they must take up the work of purifying the five elements. This is the chief education the world needs today. There is no gain merely in taking degrees through acquaintance with books. Every student must recognise, in his daily life, the way to make good use of the five elements, and act on it. Today the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe have all become polluted. The five elements have become polluted. So students, along with their studies, must set about the effort of purifying the five elements. First of all they must make their own homes, their schools and their surroundings clean. Cleanliness is Godliness. You must be pure. Every act you do must be pure.
