In plain words
Śānti is in your heart itself. If you forget such a heart and search the bazaar for Śānti, how will you find it? Peace is not to be had in the bazaar. What is to be had in the bazaar is only Pieces. Whatever work you do, you must do it with complete Prema. Whoever you speak with, you must speak softly and sweetly. You must not hold envy and hatred towards others. This is what you must learn first of all.
The Embodiment of Prema yields to Prema alone
Man today fills himself with bad qualities from head to foot and is becoming like a beast. Even a beast has a reason and has a season. But man, for his part, has no reason and no season. So the beast, it seems, is better than man. How can one who is filled with bad qualities be a man? One who calls himself a man must show forth humanness. You cannot be men merely because you wear a human body. You must nourish the human values that befit the body. You must develop Prema. Only through Prema does God, who is full of Prema, become your friend. God alone is your true friend. He is the embodiment of complete Prema. If you want to attain God, you must offer yourselves to God with complete Prema. Do not love God merely for things and vehicles and the like; you must love Him for the sake of Prema. Only through Prema will you win the Embodiment of Prema. God has no particular form or name. “Eka Prabhu ke aneka nām”: there may be any number of names, but God is only one. Believe in this oneness and foster Prema for God.
The good and bad you see are within you
The heart is like a tank; the senses are all like taps. When you fill the heart with Prema, whichever ‘tap’ you turn, Prema alone comes out. That is, your sight, your speech, your hearing all become full of Prema. When you fill your heart with hatred, that hatred enters your sight as well. If you see hatred in others, it is nothing but the reflection of the hatred in you.
