Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The very faults in you are reflected in the person before you. All that is outside is nothing but “reflection, reaction, resound.” The “reality” is within you yourselves. You must recognise this truth first of all. Whatever colour of glasses you wear, the whole world appears in that very colour. In the same way, if you are good, the whole world will look good to you. Prema alone is your chief possession. Root out hatred; kill anger. Foster Prema.

The sweetness that is in Prema is in nothing else. Today everyone in the world longs for Śānti. But Śānti is not somewhere in the bazaar. When you fill the heart with Prema, the whole world becomes full of Śānti. The reason there is no Śānti in the world today is simply that there is no complete Prema in man. Only when man achieves complete Prema can he experience complete Śānti in the world.

What protects is not money, but morality and discipline

Embodiments of Prema! The principle in all of you is one and the same. That itself is the Ātma, that itself is Prema, that itself is God. You forget that Prema and long for worldly pleasures and riches. How long can they last? Money does not protect you; morality and discipline alone do. At the time of going, will money come with you? It never will. Alexander earned a great deal. But what could he take with him? He left with nothing but empty hands. However much you earn, in the end you cannot take even a single coin with you. At the time of going, your merit and sin alone come with you, not money. So you must gather the wealth of merit. You must take sacred Prema with you. If you foster Prema, there will be no one in the world richer than you. The poorest of all in this world is the one whose desires go beyond measure. The richest of all is the one who is content. As long as there are desires, you will have neither happiness nor Śānti.
