Passage 7

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

In every living being there is divinity. The holy books, the Bible and the Koran alike, teach this very truth. But fools who cannot understand invent perverse meanings and enter a path against Dharma.

“Eka prabhu ke aneka nām”

“Advaita darśanaṃ jñānaṃ.” “Ekamevādvitīyaṃ Brahma.” What is not two, one and only one: that itself is divinity. In the bhajan you sing, “Eka prabhu ke aneka nām”, don't you! God is one alone. But through feelings of the natural world and the nature of pravṛtti, you invent many forms and names for God.

Muslims as Allāh, good Christians as Jehovah, Vaiṣṇavas as the Lord with eyes like full-blown lotuses, Śaivas as Śambhu, ever worship Him with joy; and to them all long life, enjoyment, fortune and other riches He grants, and He protects them: see, the Paramātma is one alone!

We give names, Allāh, Jesus, Rāma, as our fondness leads us, but in truth God is one alone. To think that Jesus said it one way and Rāma said it another is mere delusion. All the great souls taught only the sacred path; they wished that all should be well. No great soul said, ‘Cut these down, kill those.’ But inventing such dreadful meanings, some today are falling into wickedness.

All that the great souls spoke were nothing but sacred and pleasing words. They taught love for all. They did not teach hatred of anyone. The Ātma in all is one. No one has the right to kill anyone. Does God say, ‘Kill people’? Some, in the name of God, give rise to such evil feelings and enter on wicked ways. This is good for no one. You must not wound the minds of others. If you wound the minds of others, your mind will be wounded ten times more. If you cause others pain, there will be those who cause you ten times as much pain. If you do not wish to speak, it is good to remain silent.
