Passage 7

In plain words

Gain control over desires!

A few minutes ago blood came streaming from this nose. But had I given in to it, it would have grown still worse. Chī! Am I to give in to this? Telling Myself I must not give in to it at all, I got up with courage, went and wiped it, and came back at once. This blood has grown from the food we eat, has it not! What use is it if we take fright at the sight of the blood we ourselves have built up? Wherever we are, we must gain control over desires. Only then do we become true human beings. We come close to being Mādhava.

The more control you gain over desires, the closer you come to God. There is no God greater than Prema. Prema itself is God. Live in Prema. This is the very thing you must learn today. It does not happen that blood comes when you cut your body, milk when you cut another body, and water when you cut yet another. Only blood flows in all! In the same way, the Prema in every jīvātma is one and the same. So love everyone. Do not let anger and resentment come near you at all.

Prema itself is God, Prema itself is courage

Embodiments of Prema! In Prema no differences arise. Regard Prema itself as your life-breath. Never, in any circumstance, push Prema away from you. As much as we love a child born to us, so much must we love the children of others too. The festival of Onam has come so that we may share our Prema with all. We are born to make Prema grow. If we do not develop Prema, our whole life goes to waste. Prema itself is God, Prema itself is courage. So live with Prema. Hold on to Prema.

(After the bhajan ‘Prema mudita manase kaho Rāma Rāma Rām....’ had been sung, Swami continued His divine discourse and said this.)

The doctors told Me, “Swami! At this time You must not go out and set about giving a discourse.” “What for?” I said. “If You talk, the blood may come again,” they said. “I shall see how it comes,” I said. If we face a difficulty bravely, it too takes fright at us. So when any difficulty comes, we must not grieve.
