Passage 11

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Diseases come most of all to the very ones who build up much attachment to the body. So do not set your mind on the body. Fix your mind on your true nature.

One day a student had set up an iron chair and was tying a festoon. As I came there, he took fright. He fell from there. As he and that iron stool fell on Me, My hip broke in three pieces. The doctors said I must rest for three months. I told them I would not rest even for three minutes. What has this body come for? This body has come to do good to others. From that day to this I have not put on even one bandage. I am very fond of students. They too love Swami very much. I hold a boy's hand and walk a little. Our body depends on balance. When the balance goes, some difficulties arise. But I take no account of this. It comes, it goes. It will come right by itself. We must not grieve over anything. If we fulfil our duty, everything will go on rightly.

The more one worries, the more ill-health grows

If you just sit eating, indigestion increases. So do not hanker after food. Look after your health with care. That becomes possible only when you keep to moderation in food and habits. Earn a good name. Good habits, good health, good conduct: if these are there, that is enough; we need not run here and there for doctors. Why should we create the situation of having to go to doctors at all? If today you take medicine for one disease, tomorrow another disease begins. Some doctors have made earning money their one aim. If some small lump appears, they say ‘cancer’ without examining properly what it is. After hearing that word the patient really does get ‘cancer’. Because he keeps worrying about that alone. The more one worries, the further ill-health grows. Hurry, Worry, Curry: these three lead to heart attacks.
