Passage 1

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

When you are born from the mother's womb, no necklaces of any sort are to be seen; there are no strands of fine pearls, not even one to show; there is no chain of pure gold upon the neck; there are no garlands of gems shining bright; no emeralds or rubies are set in them; there are no diamond necklaces gleaming; there are no hessonite stones along with them. There is, there is one garland upon your neck: the karmas of former births set into it; however many you did, all of them reckoned one by one, be they good or bad, with none cut away; Brahmā gives you the heavy garland and sends you forth with it, the necklace that gathers in all your karmas.

How fortunate man is cannot be described. “Jantūnāṃ narajanma durlabhaṃ”: birth as a human being is very hard to come by. Unable to recognise the special greatness of such humanness, man is drawn towards physical and worldly things. Man is not one who has emerged from the physical world.
