In plain words
By the time we had crossed the lake and come ashore, wherever we looked we saw elephants in herd upon herd. Their ears are very big; if they swing them once like that, a man falls to the ground. I went right into the midst of those elephants. Seeing My car, they raised their trunks and saluted. In this way, good qualities not found even in human beings were seen in those animals. There was no feeling of hatred in them at all. They all lived in harmony together. Usually elephants are afraid when they see lions. But there, lions and elephants were living side by side in harmony. We went up a small hill. There, on a boulder, were ten lions. All around, elephants kept moving about. We too went close to them and took photographs. They did not stir in the least. They just kept looking towards us. Among human beings, at least, some sort of fear might well arise. But there, no animal and no beast took fright. Some lions were lying there. Our jeep went over their tails. They took those tails and kissed them. It felt very hard for Me to leave those beasts that had shown such Prema and come away. Such Prema is not to be seen in human beings today. When one sees another, there is hatred! Even between mother and child, nothing but hatred! Even between husband and wife, only hatred! But there we saw no hatred of any kind. In that place I saw beasts full of such Prema and evenness of mind. After coming back from there, I tried to teach human beings the principle of their Prema. If animals themselves have so much Prema, why should human beings not have it? They have no Prajñāna, Vijñāna or Sujñāna at all. Yet in man today, endowed with Prajñāna, Vijñāna and Sujñāna and having read so many books, not even a little Prema is to be seen. So, human beings! I hope that all of you will live together in harmony and mutual affection. ‘Love all, serve all.’ Love everyone. Serve everyone. This, precisely, is the message I give you. With Prema alone, you can achieve everything. Prema is everything. Prema is life. Life is Prema. Life is made of Prema itself, not of hatred.
