In plain words
We must hold fast to such faith in God. Many people keep saying there is no God. But, “If there is no God, where did I come from? What place is there for me?” This they do not ask themselves. Without faith in God, everything goes to waste.
Embodiments of Prema! Make your Prema grow. Nourish Satya. When Satya and Prema both settle in us, Śānti comes about, and our whole life goes on in happiness. Then we feel hatred for no one. We love all. We make all happy. So install Satya and Prema in your heart. You must not forget them even in a dream. A dream is only the ‘reflection, reaction, resound’ of the waking state. All that you did by day comes back as dreams at night. They are clouds that drift past. We must not run after them, clutching at them. We must hold to God, who is steady, Satya and eternal. If we hold to God we can achieve anything at all; we need fear nothing, worry about nothing, and need not mind what anyone says. Whatever anyone says, you should think, “It is the body they are speaking of, not me.” The body is not ‘I’. This is my body. Then who am I? You must question yourselves in this way. This ‘I’ is no mere individual ‘I’; this one is a fundamental ‘I’. That is to say, this ‘I’ does not belong to one person only; it belongs to all. So the individual ‘I’ in us, that is, the Ahaṅkāra that says ‘I’, must be cut away completely. This is the inner meaning of the cross, the sign of the Christian faith! To cut away the ‘I’ is divinity. We say, ‘my son, my child’. This sense of ‘mine’, the ‘nā’ in those words, must also be given up. ‘Nā’ means ‘not’. ‘Nā’ is nothing! Everything is God. What is in everything is God alone. So keep on remembering God. Not even a single moment should be wasted. If we waste a moment, it is as if we had wasted a great deal of time. If you think of God for even one moment, you will have great Ānanda. When sorrow comes to you, close your eyes and remember God, and you will surely find Śānti.
