In plain words
What is true? What is untrue?” It was given for asking this. Whatever you do, first inquire, “Is what I am doing Dharma or not? Is what I am saying true or not?” Speak only the truth. Travel on the path of Satya. Act in keeping with God's command. Satya is the very Name of God. So keep on remembering the Name of God.
By remembering the Name we can cross the sea of troubles
There is no use merely spending money on pūjās and rites. Give some food to those who are hungry. Give clothes to those who have none. You may do as much of all this as you like. But do nothing that leaves out the Name of God. When you give alms to anyone, remember ‘Rāma’ as you give. Say it inwardly; it need not be said aloud. The mind is the basis of everything. “Manayeva manuṣyāṇāṃ kāraṇaṃ bandhamokṣayoḥ.” So whatever else your mind forgets, never forget the Name of God. It was by the power of the Name that Rāma crossed the ocean, entered Laṅkā and destroyed the demons. In the same way, it is by the Name that we can cross the ocean of troubles and sorrows. If we would root out unrest, grief, hardship, loss, worry and disease, the Name alone is enough. Lust, anger, jealousy, envy and pretence: all these are like the demons in the city of Laṅkā. We must not let these demons into our heart. If you let in the demon called anger, it spoils everything. It drives away even kin and friends. So do not let anger come near. Within, we must remember without ceasing the Name of God, who is Prema itself and Śānti itself. Only when you have attained such Prema and Śānti will the whole country prosper. Those who desire the welfare of the country must always be full of Prema. They must live without causing loss of any kind to anyone. At the end of bhajan we say, “May all the worlds be happy”, do we not!
