In plain words
When there is no self-confidence, however much we may study, however many śāstras we may read, however much research we may do, it is of no use. Not only that: through them you even end up wasting time. This is not the way to know God. Only when we restrain the senses, curb the mind and develop faith in God can we know God. Only through self-confidence can you come to know God to some extent; without self-confidence you can achieve nothing. So develop self-confidence. Only when you have self-confidence can you win success in everything.
Man today scrambles after ‘science, science, science’; but however far science has advanced, he has not come to know God in the least. Science is merely something that teaches arts of illusion! It teaches only what is impermanent and untrue; it cannot teach in the least the principle of the Ātma, which is eternal and true. It is not possible for science to know the principle of the Ātma. Even now scientists, still not coming to their senses, keep on trying; but it is impossible. We may trust science only in physical, worldly matters. Through it we can earn money, but we cannot earn virtue. Scientists are earning crores. But what is the use? Money comes and goes, but morality comes and grows. Only in spirituality is it possible to attain moral values. Even those who won fame as very great scientists could not, at the very end, keep their own bodies themselves under their control. Why must you learn science in a way that wrecks the ‘brain’ so badly! Instead, you must purify the Buddhi and render service fitting for the country and for society. You must use your education for the well-being of society. Only then can you develop morality and honesty, and win fame and honour. Only when you develop morality and honesty can you recognise Satya. So strive for Satya!
