In plain words
When he was little he went with his mother to see a play about Śrāvaṇa's devotion to his father, and resolved that he too must be a man of great virtue like Śrāvaṇa and like Hariścandra, and he studied with good conduct. And so Mohandās Karamchand became a Mahātma. When Gāndhī was at school he had a teacher. That teacher taught the wrong way. But Gāndhī did not take those ways up. That is why he could bring self-rule to the country. There are thousands upon thousands like him in the land of Bhārat. It is those who practised ‘Ātmavidyā’ who, then and now, stand for ever as ideal men and ideal women, as immortals.
