Poem 290

వేదశాస్త్రమ్ములు వివరించి బుధులచేచదివించ వచ్చు తా చదువ వచ్చుయజ్ఞయాగ తపములధికార జనులచేచేయించ వచ్చు తా చేయవచ్చుఇలలోనగల తీర్థములనేగనన్యులబోధించ వచ్చు తా పోవ వచ్చుఅష్టాంగయోగంబునర్థులకును బోధసలుపంగ వచ్చు తా సలుప వచ్చుకాని తన మనోబుద్ధ్యహంకారములనునిల్పి అంతర్ముఖము చేసి నియతితోడనిశ్చలసమాధి నిష్ఠులై నిలువ లేరుసాధుసద్గుణ గణ్యులౌ సభ్యులార!

In plain words

Expounding the Vedas and the śāstras, one may have the learned study them, and one may study them oneself; yajñas, yāgas and tapas one may have those entitled to them perform, and one may perform them oneself; to go to the holy places on this earth, others one may urge, and one may go oneself; the eight-limbed yoga to those who seek it, instruction one may give, and one may practise it oneself; but their own Manas, Buddhi and Ahaṅkāra to hold still, to turn inward and, with discipline, to stand established in unwavering samādhi: this they cannot do, O members of this assembly, counted among the good and virtuous!
