Hearing that his son was on his way, come back as though from the dead, the king would not believe it. How should anything good come to me, who am not good? Then he trusted the divine sage's word, and a rush of joy overcame him. Delighted with the man who brought the news, he gave him a necklace worth a great fortune. He mounted a chariot fitted with gold and drawn by good horses, with brahmins around him and the elders of his house, with ministers and kinsmen, and with conch and kettledrum sounding, with the chanting of the Veda and with flutes, he went quickly out of the city, hungry for the sight of his son. His two queens, Suniti and Suruci, wearing their gold, mounted a palanquin and went out together with Uttama.

Seeing him coming near the garden, the king got down from his chariot at once, went to him quickly, and was undone by love.
