Dhruva saw a splendid chariot coming down out of the sky, lighting the ten directions, like the lord of the full moon risen. In it stood two of the best of gods, four-armed and dark, young, their eyes like red lotuses, leaning on a mace, finely dressed, with crowns and necklaces and armlets and lovely earrings. Knowing them for the servants of him whose renown is highest, he stood up, and in his awe forgot the proper order of things. He bowed, saying over the names of the enemy of Madhu, and with his palms joined called them the first of the attendants. His mind was fixed on Krsna's feet, his palms joined, his neck bent in humility, when Sunanda and Nanda, whom the lotus-navelled one holds dear, came near and answered him, smiling.

Sunanda and Nanda said: King, all good come to you. Listen closely to what we say. You who at five years old satisfied the god by austerity: we are the two attendants of that god who carries the horn bow and holds the whole world up, and we have come here to take you to the station of the Bhagavan.
