Blameless in all he did, great among the great, he did these things and many more besides, and ruled the circle of the earth; then, leaving his fame spread wide, he rose to the highest place. Lord of the assembly, the Ksatta, great among the Lord's own, honouring the son of Kusaru as he recited, spoke to him of that swelling fame of the first king, honoured by the worthy for its every excellence. Prthu, anointed by the brahmins and given every honour by the gods, carried in his two arms the fire that is Visnu's, and with those arms he milked the earth. What man of understanding does not hear his fame? On the leavings of his valour all the kings of the earth, and the worlds with their guardians, live at their ease even now. Tell me that pure work of his.

Living in the land between the rivers Ganga and Yamuna, he took only those enjoyments already begun, wanting to be done with the merit he had earned. Nowhere was his order turned aside; he held the single rod over the seven islands, save among the families of the brahmins and save among the kin of the Unfallen.
