So light up for us the knowledge of the self, in which what is real is seen as it is, by which we may easily cross the sea of becoming that is so hard to cross. Asked so by the Pracetas, the revered sage Narada, his self entered by the Bhagavan whose renown is highest, spoke to those kings. That is a birth, those are works, that is a life, that a mind, that a speech, by which men here serve Hari the Lord, the self of everything. What are the three births here, from seed, from the Savitri, from sacrifice? What are the works spoken of in the three Vedas, or even a man's lifetime as long as a god's? What is learning worth, or austerity? What are words, or the workings of the mind? What is a sharp understanding, or strength, or the wealth of the senses,

or yoga, or enumeration, or renunciation, or the study of oneself? What are any other goods, where Hari, who gives himself, is not?
