31He was good to brahmins, well behaved, true to his word, his senses conquered; and like the self of all beings, he alone was the dearest friend they had. 32He bowed at the feet of his betters like a servant, was tender to the poor like a father, warm to his equals like a brother, and looked on his teachers as the Lord himself. Rich in learning, in wealth, in beauty and in birth, he was without the stiffness of pride. 33His mind was not shaken in troubles; he did not long for the qualities of things heard of or seen, taking them for nothing real; senses, breaths, body and thought were always in hand; his desire was quieted. A demon, he had nothing of the demon in him.
34The great qualities that the wise keep noting in him, king, are not covered over even now, any more than they are in the Bhagavan, the Lord. 35In the assembly where good men's stories are told, even the gods, his enemies, make him the standard, king; how much more others like you. 36Enough of his countless qualities. His greatness is shown by this alone: that his delight in Vasudeva, the Bhagavan, was his own nature.
