1Divine sage, tell me by what rule a householder may go this way easily, one like me whose wits are dulled by his home. 2Living at home, king, and doing the acts a household calls for, he should attend upon the great sages, laying all of it directly before Vasudeva. 3He should hear again and again, and with trust, the nectar of the story of the Bhagavan's descents, at the times set for it, with quiet people around him. 4By the company of the true he should loosen, little by little, his hold on wife and children and the rest as they are themselves loosened from him, waking of himself as from a dream. 5Tending body and house only so far as they require, learned, unattached but looking like a man attached, in the world of men he should put on the part of a man.
