Then the antigod went into hiding and let loose an antigods' maya, and out of it a mountain appeared above the army of the gods, master. Trees fell from it, burning with the fire of the forest, and rocks with peaks sharp as chisels, grinding the enemy's force to powder. Great serpents sprang out, and biting snakes and scorpions, and lions and tigers and boars, and great elephants trampling. And women of the night-walkers by the hundred, naked, with spears in their hands, crying Cut him! Split him! and companies of raksasas as well, master. Then great clouds in the sky, deep and harsh of voice, thunderheads driven by the winds, poured down burning coals.

A very great fire let loose by the Daitya, with the wind for its charioteer, fierce as the fire at the ending of an age, burned the flag-bearing host of the gods. Then the sea was seen on every side, risen over its shore, terrible with its waves and whirlpools thrown up by furious winds. So, as these mayas were let loose by the Daityas, great makers of maya, terrible in their movements that could not be marked, the soldiers of the gods sank into despair.
