Given leave by them and honoured by them, he should eat what is left, with his own people. That night he should live chastely; and the next day, the first of them, bathed and clean, by the rule as it has been told, with a well-gathered mind, he should bathe the god in milk and worship him, and so on until the vow is finished. Living on milk, he should keep this vow, careful in the worship of Visnu. He should pour the offering into the fire as before, and feed brahmins as well. So day after day, for twelve days, he should keep the milk vow: the honouring of Hari, the offering in the fire, the worship, the satisfying of the twice-born.

Beginning with the first day of the fortnight and going on to the thirteenth of the bright half, he should live chastely, sleep on the ground, and bathe at the three turns of the day. He should give up idle talk and enjoyments high and low, do no harm to any living thing, and make Vasudeva the one thing he goes by.
