How was the Bhagavan Rama toward his brothers, or toward his own people? And how did the people and the townsfolk conduct themselves toward him, the Lord? Then the lord of the three worlds sent his brothers out to conquer the quarters. Showing himself to his own, he went with his followers to look over the city. Its roads were wet with fragrant waters and with the rut of the elephants, so that the city seemed drunk, and more than drunk at seeing her master come. She was decked with golden jars set out on the mansions, the gate-towers, the halls, the shrines, the houses of the gods and the rest, and with flags. There were areca palms and plantains with their stems, strips of fine cloth, mirrors, hangings and garlands, and archways put up for the festival.

Here and there the townsfolk came to him with offerings in their hands and laid their blessings on him: God, guard this earth, which you lifted up before. Then the people, seeing their lord come after so long, left their houses to look at him, women and men, and climbed the mansions; and with eyes that could not have enough of the lotus-eyed one they scattered flowers over him.
