Then the Bhagavan Krsna, along with Rama, played with the boys of the camp who were of their own age, and made the women of the camp glad. Seeing Krsna's lovely childish naughtiness, the cowherd women came together and, while his mother was listening, said this. Sometimes he lets the calves loose at the wrong time and laughs when they shout at him. He works out ways of stealing and eats the good curd and the milk. He shares it out to feed the monkeys, and if one of them will not eat he breaks the pot. If he finds nothing there, he grows angry with the house and goes off, having made the little ones cry. Where a thing is out of reach of his hand, he makes an arrangement with stools and mortars and the rest; and knowing what is inside, he makes a hole in the pots on the slings. In a dark room he uses his own body, with its heap of jewels on it, for a lamp to show him what he wants, at the hour when the cowherd women are hard at work about the house.

So he does bold things, and he makes water and worse in the clean house; and having made his work by ways of stealing, he sits there looking innocent. The women told her so, watching his fine face with fear in their eyes; and she, having had it all explained, only laughed and would not scold him.
