Hearing their friends speak so, and wanting to do what would please them, the two masters laughed and went to the palm wood with the cowherds around them. Bala went in, shook the palms with his two arms, and by his strength brought the fruit down, like a rutting elephant. Hearing the noise of the falling fruit, the demon in the shape of an ass came running, shaking the face of the earth and the trees standing on it. The strong one came up quickly, turned about, struck Bala on the chest with his two hind feet, and then went round him braying. Coming back in a fury, king, the brayer stood with his back to Bala and threw his two hind feet at him in his rage.

Bala took him by the hooves and whirled him about with one hand and threw him into the top of the king of grasses; and the whirling had already taken his life. Struck by him, the great palm with its wide crown shook and broke, and shook the one beside it, and that one another, and that one another still. The palms all shook, struck again and again by the ass's body which Bala had thrown in play, as if a great wind had come at them.
