51At each sacrifice he worshipped by rule, with the fire-offering and its like, with plain rites and with altered ones, the lord of what is given, of knowing and of doing. 52Then in due time he gave the priests their fees as the tradition lays down, adorning them first: cows, land, girls, and great wealth. 53Having carried out the offering with the wives and the closing bath, those great sages, brahmins, bathed in Rama's pool, the one who was sacrificing going before them. 54Bathed, he gave his ornaments and his clothes to the bards, and the women did the same. Then, well adorned, he honoured with food all the classes, down to the dogs.
55He honoured his kin with their wives and their sons with abundant gifts, and the Vidarbhas, the Kosalas, the Kurus, the Kasis, the Kekayas and the Srnjayas; 56the men of the assembly, the priests, the hosts of gods, men, spirits, fathers and wandering singers. Taking their leave of him who is the home of Sri, they went away praising the rite.
