Once, when her people had gone off somewhere, a young girl herself received the men who had come to the house to choose her. King, she was husking rice in a room apart to make them something to eat, and the conch bangles on her forearms set up a great noise. Thinking that a shameful thing, the grown girl was ashamed, and she broke the bangles one by one and left two on each hand. Even from those two there was a clatter as she husked, so she broke one of them there as well; and from the single one no sound came. Subduer of enemies, I learned this teaching from her while I was going about these worlds, wanting to know what the world is.

Where many live together there is quarrelling, and where two are there is talk. So let a man go about alone, like the young girl's bangle.
