5Given over to me, let him keep the restraints constantly and the observances as he can, and wait upon a teacher who knows me, who is at peace, who has me for his very self. 6Without pride, without spite, able, saying of nothing that it is his, firm in friendship, unhurried, wanting to know what matters, finding no fault, and speaking no idle word; 7standing apart from wife, children, house, field, his own people, money and the rest, and seeing them all evenly, as one sees a concern of the self. 8The self is of another kind than the body, gross or subtle. It is the one who sees, and it sees by its own light, as fire is not the wood it burns but the burner, the other thing, the one that gives light.
