The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Bṛhadāraṇyakopaniṣadbhāṣyam

Verse 130

मनो वै ग्रहः स कामेनातिग्राहेण गृ-हीतो मनसा हि कामान्कामयते ॥ ७ ॥

In plain words

The mind is a grasper — seized by desire itself, its own over-grasper. Because it is through the mind that we want what we want.

Close to the Sanskrit

The mind, indeed, is a grasper; it is seized by desire as the over-grasper; for by the mind one desires desires.
