अथ एवमज्ञः सन् किमनु कस्मात्त्वं अनुशिष्टोऽसीति-अवोचथा उक्तवानसि ; यो हि इमानि मया पृष्टान्यर्थजा-तानि न विद्यात् न विजानीयात्, कथं स विद्वत्सु अनुशि-ष्टोऽस्मीति ब्रुवीत ।इत्येवं स श्वेतकेतुः राज्ञा आयस्तः आ-यासितः सन् पितुरर्धं स्थानम् एयाय आगतवान्, तं चपितरमुवाच — अननुशिष्य अनुशासनमकृत्वैव मा मां किलभगवान् समावर्तनकालेऽब्रवीत् उक्तवान् अनु त्वाशिषम्अन्वाशिषं त्वामिति ॥

In plain words

Remaining thus ignorant, why did you claim you were educated? If anyone fails to understand these topics I asked about, how can they profess to be learned among scholars? Harassed by the king, Śvetaketu returned to his father and said, "Without fully instructing me, revered father, you told me at my parting that you had passed on all teachings to me."

Close to the Sanskrit

Being thus ignorant, why did you say, 'I am instructed'? For if anyone does not know these subjects asked by me, how can that person claim, 'I am instructed among the learned'? Thus harassed by the king, Śvetaketu arrived at his father's dwelling, and spoke to his father: "Without giving instruction, without performing teaching, you, revered father, spoke to me at graduation, saying, 'I have transmitted the blessing to you.'"
