In plain words
And if he did not commit the deed, he establishes his true nature through that very innocence. Shielding his self with truth and his non-culpability, he grasps the burning axe. Because he is anchored in truth, he is not burned, and he is freed from his false accusers. Although the physical contact with the blazing hatchet is identical for both, the liar is burned, but the truth-bound man is not.
Close to the Sanskrit
Now if he is the non-doer of that action, from that very fact he makes his self as truth. He, by truth and thus by the non-commission of theft, having shielded his self, accepts the heated axe. Being truth-bound, he is not burned, because of truth-shielding, and then is released from the false accusers. Even though the contact of the heated axe with the palm of the hand is identical between the thief and the non-thief, the false-bound one is burned, but not the truth-bound one.
