। ॥ १५७ ॥
In plain words
Before the mirror is brought, the face is there. After it is taken away, the face is there. Only in between does the reflected face appear. Smash the mirror — the face is still there. What holds for the face holds exactly for the Ātman.
Close to the Sanskrit
Before the mirror and after the mirror, the face exists; the reflected face then shines forth. And even when the mirror is destroyed, the face exists — in the case of the face, just so the Ātman.
