हे द्विपदां वरिष्ठ, छन्दांसि वेदाः स्वच्छन्दयोगेन, स्वच्छन्दता स्वाधीनता, यथाकाममित्यर्थः ।तत्र परमात्मनि भवन्ति तत्रैव प्रमाणं भवन्ति ।श्रूयते च—‘सर्वे वेदा यत्पदमामनन्ति’ इति ।‘वेदैश्च सर्वैरहमेव वेद्यः’ इति च ।पुरुषार्थपर्यवसायित्वाद्वेदस्य तद्व्यतिरिक्तस्य सर्वस्य अनित्याशुचिदुःखानुविद्धत्वेन पुरुषार्थत्वाभावात् तत्स्वरूपतज्ज्ञानतत्साधनप्रतिपादकत्वेन वेदानां प्रामाण्यमित्यर्थः ।यस्मात् वेदाः स्वच्छन्दयोगेन तत्रैव परमात्मनि प्रमाणं भवन्ति, तेन च हेतुना तान् वेदान् अधीत्य अधिगम्य वेदान्तश्रवणादिकं कृत्वा गताः प्राप्ताः वेदस्य संविद्रूपस्य परमात्मनः स्वरूपं न वेद्यं प्रपञ्चम् आर्याः पण्डिता ब्रह्मविदः ॥
In plain words
O finest of men, the Vedic meters and scriptures find their true scope and authoritative validity in that supreme self alone. As the śrutis declare: 'All the Vedas proclaim that goal,' and 'I alone am to be known through all the Vedas.' Because the Vedas culminate in the supreme human goal—whereas everything else is tainted by transience, impurity, and sorrow—their authority lies precisely in revealing the nature of that ultimate reality, the knowledge of it, and the means to attain it. Since the Vedas are authoritative regarding that supreme self alone, wise and noble scholars who know brahman study them, practice listening to the Vedānta and meditating upon it, and thereby realize the pure, conscious essence of the supreme self, transcending the objective universe.
Close to the Sanskrit
O finest of bipeds, meters and vedas by their own free connection find their scope there in that supreme self, they alone serve as valid proof there. And it is heard: 'All vedas proclaim which state,' and 'By all the vedas I alone am to be known.' Because the veda culminates in human liberation, whereas everything other than that is tainted by impermanence, impurity, and sorrow and thus lacks the status of human liberation, the authoritativeness of the vedas consists in their setting forth the nature of that, the knowledge of that, and the means to that, this is the meaning. Because the vedas by their own free connection serve as valid proof precisely in that supreme self, and for that reason, having studied and understood those vedas, having performed hearing of vedanta and the like, noble, learned knowers of brahman have attained the true nature of the supreme self, which is of the nature of consciousness and is not an external knowable universe.
