In plain words
The disciple may object: 'I am plainly different—ignorant, happy or miserable, bound, a saṃsārin. That Deva is other than I am, untouched by Saṃsāra. By worshipping him with offerings, gifts, prostrations, and the Karmas appointed for my Varṇa and Āśrama, I hope to cross the ocean of Saṃsāra. How could I be that very one?'

If he should say: 'I am indeed other—ignorant, happy, unhappy, bound, a saṃsārin. That Deva is other, unlike me, and does not enter Saṃsāra. Worshipping him with offerings, gifts, prostrations, and the Karmas of Varṇa and Āśrama, I wish to cross the ocean of Saṃsāra. How am I that very one?'
