In plain words
Of all the spiritual practices prescribed by the scriptures, I hold this to be the highest: that a person, with deep devotion and single-minded focus, should always adore Lord Vasudeva—the lotus-eyed presence who shines within the lotus of the heart—by singing His glories and chanting His names. Why is this path of praise superior to all others? Because it is completely free. It does not depend on complex rituals, the assistance of other priests, specific materials, sacred locations, or auspicious times, nor does it involve any harm to living beings. As the Vishnu Purana declares: 'The very same liberation that was reached through deep meditation in the Golden Age, through elaborate sacrifices in the Silver Age, and through ritual worship in the Bronze Age, is attained in this dark age of Kali simply by chanting the name of Keshav.' And as the lawbooks say: 'A seeker of truth reaches the goal through silent prayer alone; whether he performs other rituals or not, he is a true Brahmana who is a friend to all creation.'

Among all duties defined by scriptural injunctions, this duty to be described hereafter is considered by me to be the most supreme. That a person, with devotion and single-minded dedication, should always worship Vasudeva—who is lotus-eyed and shines in the lotus of the heart—with hymns consisting of chanting His divine qualities, this is the connection. What is the reason for the superiority of this worship characterized by praise? It is said: its independence from rules regarding injury, other persons, other materials, place, time, and so forth, is the reason for its superiority. As stated in the Vishnu Purana: 'What one attains by meditating in the Satya Yuga, by sacrificing with rituals in the Treta Yuga, and by worshipping in the Dvapara Yuga, that same result one attains in the Kali Yuga by chanting the glories of Keshav.' And also: 'A Brahmana will undoubtedly attain perfection through silent chanting alone; whether he performs other rituals or not, a Brahmana is called a friend to all.'
