। ॥ १९९ ॥
In plain words
This individual self exists only as long as the delusion does — it's a swelling of false knowledge, nothing more, and it lives only because we weren't paying attention. It's exactly like the snake seen on a rope in the dark: the snake is there only while the mistake lasts. The moment the mistake is seen through, there was never any snake at all. The jīva-state is exactly the same.
Close to the Sanskrit
As long as the delusion lasts, so long alone is its existence, sprung up from false knowledge, due to heedlessness — like the snake on the rope, which exists only for the time of the delusion; when the delusion is destroyed, the snake does not exist at all — likewise [this jīva-state].
