In plain words

What knowledge actually gives you is this: you stop chasing what was never real. Chasing it in the first place was only ever the mark of not knowing. You can see the difference between someone who knows and someone who doesn't in something as ordinary as a mirage — one runs toward the water, the other simply doesn't. If that weren't true, what visible difference would knowledge ever make at all?

Close to the Sanskrit

The fruit of knowledge would be cessation from the unreal; engagement [with the unreal] is observed to be the fruit of ignorance. That difference between the knower and the non-knower is seen in a case like a mirage. If it were not so, what visible fruit of knowledge would there be, apart from this?
