In plain words
Whatever belongs to the thing being watched never touches the one watching - the witness stands apart, unchanged, unmoved, the way a lamp lighting up a house is never touched by anything that happens in that house. And how remarkable - the conditions of body, senses, and mind never touch the Self at all!
Close to the Sanskrit
The properties of the witnessed object do not touch the witness, who is distinct, changeless, and indifferent - as the properties of a house do not touch a lamp [that illumines it]; ah, the properties of body, senses, and mind do not touch the Self at all!
